I can’t recommend these enough. These Study Bibles brought together teams of biblical scholars, highly respected in their fields, to provide the latest scholarship available. Introductions to every book contain incredible background information on the text, authorship, the audience, cultural setting, textual analysis, etc.; notes at the end of each chapter contain more detailed verse-by-verse info; and there are essays that dive deeper into various topics such as cultural and historical background (the Ancient Near East, the Persian era, Greco-Roman culture, etc), Textual Criticism, textual witnesses/sources, archeology, Israelite religion, Second Temple Judaism, languages of the Bible, the Temple, Jewish interpretation in different time periods, Christian interpretation in different periods, on and on. You can click on the links below to read more about each, and then go to the “Look Inside” option on Amazon to see the table of contents within each one.
